Application of gait analysis in evaluating the effectiveness of Ankle-foot Orthoses

Updated: Jun 19

A case shared by Jiangbin Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region

This is a 57-year old female post-stroke with her right side affected . She come to us and we carried out gait analyais on her using the insloes based analysis system which would interrupt her natural gait the least.

We wantt to choose the best AFO for this patient.Although the improvement of foot pronation and out-toeing can also be seen with the naked eye, gait analysis technology can help us see that AFO improves the rolling trajectory of the foot.

What a surprise!

Many AFOs cannot improve the patient's foot rolling trajectory like this ,thanks for gait analysis technology helping us find the most suitable AFO for this patient!

Now let's have a look at her gait video and report!

She is taking gait analysis without AFO for two times, which takes only 1 minute each time.

Now she is taking gait analysis with AFO on her right foot for 3 times, which takes only 1 minute each time too.

Remember what you see and let’s go to her gait report!

As we can see from the gait records, most parameters are improved obviously of the later 3 times compared to the first 2 times.

Especially the rolling trajectory of right foot had significantly changed from a broken line back into a normal consistent line. This is due to a special design and elastic material of the AFO.
